How To Make Frozen Yogurt
How To Make Frozen Yogurt. If you’re looking for something equally yummie but a bit healthier than ice cream, then learning how to make frozen yogurt is your next goal. yYogurt only contains half of the calories present in an equal portion of ice cream
Also keep in mind that homemade frozen yogurt is a lot better and healthier than the stuff you find in the shops, many of the frozen yogurt products there actually contain dead rather than useful bacteria… so practically no health benefits!
In this post I’ll teach you how to make frozen yogurt while avoiding those beginner obstacles. The process is very similar to the process of making ice cream, mix your ingredients, put the mixture in your ice cream maker and add the flavors of your choice.
The biggest advantage I find is that depending on which recipe you follow, frozen yogurt takes a lot less preparation to make as it doesn’t involve making a custard, this makes learning how to make frozen yogurt a quick and painless process! It is however important that you don’t go off experimenting with your own recipes right from the start, recipes for frozen yogurt can differ A LOT! The only constant is of course the yogurt but other than that it’s a bit of a free for all…
Things needed: ingredients, ice cream maker, blender (optional)
Tip: If you freeze your yogurt for later consumption, make sure you take it out of the freezer 30 minutes before you eat it (so it softens), otherwise it might be too hard and icy…
How To Make : Ingredient
There are 3 different types of yogurt you can try: greek-style yogurt, low-fat yogurt or whole milk yogurt. I generally recommend going for a whole milk yogurt (plain or flavoured, NOT greek) as it gives the end product a richer taste and texture!
The only reason I’d go greek is if I want to make some really healthy frozen yogurt, that said make your choice of whole milk or low fat first… If you go low fat, go for low/non-fat greek-style yogurt as it’s a lot healthier than low fat plain yogurt, greek-style yogurt generally contains half of the sugar and double the amount of protein when compared to the same quantity plain yogurt. Keep in mind that this is ONLY if you go the low/non-fat way!
Generally people use white sugar if the recipe calls for plain yogurt, if you use flavoured yogurt, chances are you won’t need the sugar.
Fresh or frozen fruit, jam, fruit juice,… If you use actual fruit or jam, you’ll need a blender to mix everything. There’s also a big difference between blending fresh fruits and frozen fruits, frozen fruits require a more powerful blender. You can visit our smoothie partner site for more information on powerful blenders => smoothie site
You don’t need the blender if you use fruit juice, just stir in a large bowl.
Vanilla extract, honey, peanut butter,…
Tip: If you have any vodka or rum, put in a couple of tablespoons as this will make the frozen yogurt stay smoother and creamier even after freezing it!
